Compass – Eko proposed merger
Compass proposes to merge with another high-performing academy trust to strengthen educational excellence for 9,000+ pupils.
Compass is proposing to join forces with Eko Trust so that our schools are best placed to provide an even higher quality of education to their pupils.
The new Trust, if approved, will run 25 schools (23 primary schools and two special schools) in London, Essex, Suffolk and Brighton, and will serve more than 9,100 pupils and young people in all.
Our two Trusts are strong, successful and well-run organisations, sharing the same values and ethos, and united in our purpose – to put children and young people first and provide them with the best possible education. Both of our Trusts are particularly committed to narrowing the gap for the most disadvantaged pupils.
The new organisation, to be called The Compass Eko Partnership of Schools, will create new opportunities for staff, which will mean schools can continue to develop their quality of education and care. At the same time, each school will continue to retain the elements that make them unique.
The partnership will enhance our Trusts’ current offers by expanding professional development opportunities for staff, creating a wider network for sharing best practice, and enriching learning and experiences for pupils. We already have a strong working relationship with Eko, having collaborated successfully on school improvement initiatives and sharing an HR operation.
The proposal to merge is subject to approval by both Boards of Trustees and the subsequent approval by the Department for Education. The merger could then take place in early 2026. The new organisation will be led collaboratively by John Camp OBE and Rebekah Iiyambo, the CEOs of Compass and Eko respectively.
Below is a short video featuring John and Rebekah, sharing their thoughts on the exciting merger and what it means for both Trusts.
